The Economic Impact of Don Vito Corleone


The NYT reports that

through various activities — extortion, usury, contraband, robberies, gambling and Internet piracy — organized crime accounts for 7 percent of Italy’s gross domestic product.


To me gambling is a really legitimate business, so la famiglia should not be blamed for engaging in it. I am not so happy about the other things.

In a related Italian note: someone did some artsy thing to the Fontana di Trevi. As I have been to the Fontana twice, I have to admit it looks cool actually.
